And it’s no wonder: seven young men climb up walls so skillfully and quickly in the opening minutes that you immediately realize this movie is something special.
As is often the case in such scenarios, the cops don’t like troublemakers, and this becomes clear soon enough. But the tracers’ professionalism not only lets them admire cityscapes from the heights of skyscrapers but also helps them dodge encounters with law enforcement in classic parkour fashion. And the way these guys jump—no, fly—is breathtaking. They seem to glide through the air effortlessly, leaping from rooftops and railings. It’s yet another confirmation that directors often depict police officers as comedic characters (unless, of course, they are the main protagonists or hero figures).
The film has rightfully earned its cult status among parkour enthusiasts. It was here that the art of movement and obstacle conquering was showcased in all its glory for the first time, inspiring many teenagers to embark on their “creative careers” as traceurs, naturally drawn to this kind of film.
Briefly summarizing the plot: the seven acrobatic men in question rob the rich to gather a pile of money while dodging cops, owners, and vicious dogs. However, they’re not keeping the money for themselves, making comparisons to Robin Hood quite fitting. The funds are for a boy who needs surgery—the same boy who, inspired by these pros and attempting to imitate them, suffered a fall from a tree. Such is the injustice: the boy falls, the adults weren’t paying attention, and yet it’s the Yamakasi who are blamed for the mishap by those who see them as bad influences. The storyline is simple yet engaging, and watching the acrobatic skills of this extreme-loving team is a pure delight.
District 13

If there’s one person who knows how to make an engaging action movie, it’s Luc Besson. The film truly lives up to the label of “spectacular.” Its main elements: fight scenes and parkour. And to be precise, these elements are what deserve the most attention and admiration. The professional fight sequences led by police officer Damien as he attempts to prevent a bomb explosion, combined with Leïto’s gravity-defying parkour feats as he fights to save his sister, are nothing short of incredible. They’re visually stunning, impactful, and unforgettable.
This movie belongs to the category of films you’ll want to rewatch over and over, as finding a proper action movie with parkour these days isn’t easy. Of course, fight sequences alone aren’t groundbreaking—such scenes are a staple in films, including even low-budget productions—but it’s the parkour elements that made this movie stand out and capture the attention of viewers. David Belle (Leïto) played his role simply brilliantly. He deserves special respect because he performs all the stunts himself, as a professional traceur. Moreover, Belle is the founder of the ideology of parkour . Usually, in movies, one doesn’t think much about how dangerous moments are typically performed by stuntmen rather than actors. Here, understanding that David does everything himself, you can’t help but admire his every move. Your heart skips a beat each time he deftly leaps across massive gaps between rooftops. That said, Cyril Raffaelli (Damien) is also phenomenal in this film. Like Belle, he performs all his stunts on-screen himself. At times, while watching, it’s hard to decide what you’d personally prefer: such masterful fighting skills or the ability to effortlessly overcome any obstacle in your way.
And the soundtracks in the film! The musical accompaniment is, without a doubt, top-notch and praiseworthy. It adds drive, dynamism, and sets the right mood, charging the viewer with extra energy during the experience.
In addition to the music, visuals, and other spectacular elements, the film also has a pretty decent plot. It may not be groundbreaking – good versus evil and all that – but following the story becomes so engrossing that the hour and a half fly by unnoticed. Luckily, there’s a sequel to continue following your beloved characters. And it’s safe to say they’ll be adored by any viewer.

District 13: Ultimatum
The second part of the famous parkour film fully lived up to expectations. Leïto and Damien are back in action, back together as a team, showcasing top-tier skills and once again helping their city and district. The film is impressive, but it is perhaps best not to compare it to the first installment, as they are different in their own ways. You can confidently start watching “District 13: Ultimatum” without having seen the first; you won’t miss anything crucial, and there won’t be any confusion while following the storyline. Not knowing the first part also won’t diminish your enjoyment.
High-quality special effects, first-rate cinematography, and charming humor immediately captivate the viewer. Once again, the sequel delights with incredible soundtracks and stunning stunts, staples of the franchise. If there’s one thing this film doesn’t lack, it’s spectacle.
Besides the beloved David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli, special mention should go to Elodie Yung (Tao). The fight scene involving her is beautiful, and it’s a pleasure to watch her performance. Nevertheless, the whole cast is excellent, and as always, all the stunts, fights, and chases take center stage, inspiring the lion’s share of excitement from the viewing experience. Not to mention how deftly Damien protects that painting – that’s a whole different story entirely; his agility and ability to wield his hands, even with something very valuable in them, are awe-inspiring.
Unlike the first film, here the main villains are not gangsters but the government itself. Though, depending on your perspective, one could debate how much these two differ… Damien’s strength and Leïto’s agility, later supplemented by equally skilled allies, will keep you glued to the screen for every minute. The film is light, entertaining, and ideal for unwinding. On a ten-point scale? A solid ten.
Bold Days

A Russian-made film aimed at a youth audience. Within the first ten minutes, it showcases a casino, money, gangsters, a chase, and the apparent mutual attraction between two young people who meet by chance. This setup immediately gives you a sense of what the movie is about. Indeed, “Bold Days” offers just about everything a modern movie-goer could want: spectacular parkour and fight scenes, troubles with criminals and ways to overcome them, as well as a love story.
The main character, Ignat, garners admiration. He’s quick, agile, intelligent, and brave, repeatedly proving these qualities: he plays the protector, the thief, and the rescuer, demonstrating an undeniable talent for fighting, running, and jumping. However, as always, it’s a woman who lies at the root of it all – specifically, Ignat’s beloved Lina, around whom the story revolves. Gosha Kutsenko is excellent as Captain, a quasi-pirate character infatuated with the aforementioned girl. Unfortunately, his actions lead to nothing good, causing a rift between friends and most of the primary conflicts. Nevertheless, Captain is undoubtedly well-crafted: interesting, charismatic, and occasionally amusing. Without him, something essential would have been lacking, and the director made all the right choices in this regard.
Particular attention should be given to the robbery scene. Lina’s singing and Ignat’s gripping actions with his allies blend harmoniously, compelling viewers to anxiously anticipate the outcome – will the mission succeed, will they manage to pull it off?
The Black Cats – a team led by the detested Timur – add even more excitement. The film incorporates a touch of skateboarding and cycling before diving into a thrilling chase sequence. Here, one participant rides an expensive, powerful motorbike, while the other relies only on his own two legs. Naturally, the second participant is Ignat, and watching the juxtaposition of the motorbike’s speed against human agility proves particularly fascinating. Overall, the movie is not bad. Despite the lack of mega-unexpected plot twists, “Reckless Days” is interesting and easy to watch, and some amusing scenes make you want to rewatch the film multiple times, if not entirely, then by skipping to specific parts.

Freerunner

An excellent action movie packed with plentiful elements of parkour.
Now, about the plot. Ryan dreams of escaping the tiresome city to somewhere by the ocean, taking along his beloved girlfriend Chelsea and his grandfather. For this, he needs money, which he doesn’t have, and betting on himself in a freerunning race (a parkour competition) is not allowed by the rules. The race, by the way, is broadcast online. “For us, it might become a farewell party,” Ryan says to his girlfriend at one point as they attend a party organized for freerunners, having no idea how right he might prove to be, as the rules of the game radically change. The guys are lured into a trap and later forced to participate in a race with different rules, where winning means life, and losing means death via an explosive device strapped around their neck in the form of a collar. Also, surviving comes with a pretty decent bonus—a million dollars.
The movie is filled with running, fighting, a race for survival, and then more running.
